Waves - filet crochet scarf free pattern

This scarf is worked using the filet crochet technique and forms a beautiful wave pattern. It's an easy pattern and suitable for beginners.

Materials:

  • Sport weight/category 3 yarn approximately 1050 meters (three 100 gm balls)
  • G/4 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
Size:
Approximately 16.5 inches wide and 70 inches long

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed
[ ] - repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
st/sts - stitch/stitches
ch - chain
dc - double crochet

Note:
  • The pattern is written in standard American terminology
  • For a custom width make chains in multiples of 16 + 1

Instruction

Row 1: Ch 81, skip 3 ch from hook, dc in rest of the chs across. (skipped 3 ch counts as the 1st st). Turn. (79 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 4 dc, [ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc] 3 times, **dc in next 10 dc, [ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc] 3 times, ** Repeat from ** to ** 3 more times, dc in last 4 sts. Turn. 

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, [ch 1, dc in next dc] 3 times, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc (you’ll have 5 ch-1 spaces), **dc in next 6 dc, 5 ch-1 spaces** Repeat from ** to ** 3 more times, dc in last 2 sts. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 4 (counts as dc+ ch 1), skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, work 6 dc (working into dc and ch-1 spaces), **5 ch-1 spaces, 6 dc** Repeat from ** to ** 3 more times, finishing the row with 2 ch-1 spaces. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 4 (counts as dc+ ch 1), dc in next dc, work 10 dc, **3 ch-1 spaces, 10 dc** Repeat from ** to ** 3 more times, ch 1, dc in last st. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in each st and each ch-1 space across. Turn. (79 sts)

Row 7: Ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in each st across. Turn. (79 sts)

Repeat row 2 to 7 until you reach the desired length.
