Periwinkle shawl - free crochet pattern

This is an easy, beginner friendly crochet pattern for a beautiful shawl. I used a light worsted weight yarn and a 4 mm crochet hook, but you can use any yarn and a suitable hook. You can also make it in any size. Check the notes section to see how to increase the width.

Materials:

Light worsted weight/DK/category 3 yarn about 570 meters

G/4 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

 About 14 inches wide and 70 inches long.

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed

** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed

st/sts - stitch/stitches

ch/chs - chain/chains

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

Note:

• The pattern is written in standard American terms
• For a custom width make chains in multiples of 13 + 7

Instruction

Row 1: Ch 85, skip 12 chs from hook, dc in next ch, ch 5, dc in next ch, ch 4, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, **ch 4, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, ch 5, dc in next ch, ch 4, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.  

Row 2: Ch 5, sc in ch-4 space, [4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc] in ch-5 space, **sc in next ch-4 space, ch 4, sc in next ch-4 space, [4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc] in ch-5 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, [sc, ch 2, dc] in last space.

Row 3: Ch 5, dc in ch-2 space, ch 4, dc in ch-2 space, **ch 4, [dc, ch 5, dc] in ch-4 space, ch 4, dc in ch-2 space** Repeat from ** to ** until the last ch-2 space, ch 4, [dc, ch 2, dc] in last space. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, 4 dc in ch-2 space, sc in ch-4 space, ch 4, sc in next ch-4 space, **[4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc] in next ch-2 space, sc in next ch-4 space, ch 4, sc in next ch-4 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, 5 dc in last space. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 7, [dc, ch 5, dc] in ch-4 space, **ch 4, dc in next ch-2 space, ch 4, [dc, ch 5, dc] in ch-4 space** Repeat from ** to ** across until the last ch-4 space, ch 4, dc in last st. Turn.
