Crochet doily - free pattern

Materials:

Sport weight/category 2 yarn approximately 100 meters

3 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

Approximately 12 inches in diameter

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:

** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

dc2tog/dc3tog - double crochet worked together in 2/3 consecutive stitches 

2-dc cluster - double crochet 2 sts worked together in the same st/space

Instruction:
Ch 7, join with a sl st to the 1st ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.
Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same st (counts as 2-dc cluster), ch 2, **2-dc cluster in next st, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** 6 more times. Join with a sl st to 1st cluster.
Round 3: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), 2 dc in same st, ch 2, **3 dc in next cluster, ch 2** Repeat ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 4: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, **ch 5, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc** Repeat from ** to ** around, instead of last ch 5, work 2 ch and dc in the 1st st.
Round 5: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), 5 dc in same space, ch 5, **5 dc in next ch-5 space, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 6: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in same st, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, **sc in next ch-5 space, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc** Repeat from ** to ** around, sc in last ch-5 space. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 7: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in same st, dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 1, **2 dc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 8: ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in next 4 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 5 sts, ch 5, **dc in 5 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 5 sts, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 9: ch 2, dc in next st (together counts as dc2tog), dc in next 7 sts, dc2tog, ch 5, sc in ch-5 space, ch 5, **dc2tog, dc in next 7 sts, dc2tog, ch 5, sc in ch-5 space, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 10: ch 2, dc in next st (together counts as dc2tog), dc in next 5 sts, dc2tog, [ch 5, sc in ch-5 space] 2 times, ch 5, **dc2tog, dc in next 5 sts, dc2tog, [ch 5, sc in ch-5 space] 2 times, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.

Round 13: ch 2, dc2tog, (together counts as dc3tog), [ch 5, sc in ch-5 space] 5 times, ch 5, **dc3tog, [ch 5, sc in ch-5 space] 4 times, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 14: Sl st in next 2 ch, ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in same space, [ch 3, sl st in dc – forms a picot] dc in same space, **ch 1, [2 dc, picot, dc] in next ch-5 space** Repeat from ** to ** in each ch-5 space up to dc3tog, ch 3. Repeat {[2 dc, picot dc] in each ch-5 space up to dc3tog, ch 3} around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st and fasten off.
 
Finishing
Weave in all the loose ends.
Wet block the doily.

Crochet lace hexagon motif for shawl and table runners

This is the pattern for a hexagon motif which can used to make shawls, bags, table runners or doilies. It's easy and beginner friendly. The motifs are joined on the go. I used category 1 yarn. You can, however, use any yarn and a suitable hook.

Materials:
Fingering weight/ category 1 yarn 
3.5 mm crochet hook
yarn needle

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed
[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
ch - chain
st/sts - stitch/stitches
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
cluster - 2 double crochet sts worked together in the same space/stitch

Instruction
Round 1: Ch 8, join with a sl st to 1st ch to form a ring, ch 1, sc into ring, [ch 5, sc into ring] 5 times, ch 2, dc in the 1st sc.

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 3 dc in same space, ch 2, **4 dc in next ch-5 space, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.

Round 3: Ch 2, dc2tog in same space (together counts as cluster), [ch 2, cluster in next dc] 3 times, ch 3, cluster in next dc, [ch 2, cluster in next dc] 3 times, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st cluster.

Round 4: Sl st in next ch-2 space, ch 2, dc2tog in same space, [ch 3, cluster in the next ch-2 space] 2 times, ch 3, sc in ch-3 space, ch 3, **cluster in the next ch-2 space, [ch 3, cluster in the next ch-2 space] 2 times, ch 3, sc in ch-3 space, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st cluster.

Round 5: Sl st in next ch-3 space, ch 2, dc2tog in same space, ch 3, cluster in next ch-3 space, ch 4, sc in next ch-3 space, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space, ch 4, **cluster in the next ch-3 space, ch 3, cluster in the next ch-3 space, ch 4, sc in ch-3 space, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space, ch 4** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st cluster.

Round 6: Sl st in next ch-3 space, ch 2, dc2tog in same space, ch 3, sl st in the cluster (picot), ch 4, sc in next ch-4 space, ch 7, sc in the next ch-5 space, ch 7, sc in next ch-4 space, ch 4, **cluster in next ch-3 space, picot, ch 4, sc in ch-4 space, ch 7, sc in ch-5 space, ch 7, sc in ch-4 space, ch 4** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the cluster.


Joining the motifs

Only the first motif is worked completely. Work 5 rounds of the 2nd motif. Then work 1 side of the 6th round up to the 2nd cluster. We'll make the 1st joint at the picots. Work 2 ch, sl st in any picot of the 1st motif, ch 2, sl st above the cluster of the 2nd motif finishing the picot, ch 4, sc in the next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 3, sl st in the ch-7 space of the 1st motif, ch 3, sc in next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 3, sl st in the next ch-7 space of the 1st motif, ch 3, sc in next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 4, cluster in the ch-3 space between the two clusters, ch 2, sl st in the next picot of the 1st motif, ch 2, sl st above the cluster of the 2nd motif finishing the picot. Complete the rest of the round as usual. Similarly join moitfs in a row. In the next row you'll be joining the motifs between the 2 motifs above.

Instruction

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch 1, 16 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.
Round 2: Ch 6, skip next st, dc in next st, ch 3, **skip next st, dc in next st, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch.
Round 3: Sl st in next ch-3 space, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same space, in every ch-3 space work [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc]. Join with a sl st in the 1st st.
Round 4: Sl st in next dc and next ch-2 space, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same space, ch 3, **[2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in next ch-2 space, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st in the 1st st.
