This is the pattern for a hexagon motif which can used to make shawls, bags, table runners or doilies. It's easy and beginner friendly. The motifs are joined on the go. I used category 1 yarn. You can, however, use any yarn and a suitable hook.

Materials:
Fingering weight/ category 1 yarn
3.5 mm crochet hook
yarn needle

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed
[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
ch - chain
st/sts - stitch/stitches
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
cluster - 2 double crochet sts worked together in the same space/stitch

Joining the motifs

Only the first motif is worked completely. Work 5 rounds of the 2nd motif. Then work 1 side of the 6th round up to the 2nd cluster. We'll make the 1st joint at the picots. Work 2 ch, sl st in any picot of the 1st motif, ch 2, sl st above the cluster of the 2nd motif finishing the picot, ch 4, sc in the next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 3, sl st in the ch-7 space of the 1st motif, ch 3, sc in next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 3, sl st in the next ch-7 space of the 1st motif, ch 3, sc in next ch-sp of the 2nd motif, ch 4, cluster in the ch-3 space between the two clusters, ch 2, sl st in the next picot of the 1st motif, ch 2, sl st above the cluster of the 2nd motif finishing the picot. Complete the rest of the round as usual. Similarly join moitfs in a row. In the next row you'll be joining the motifs between the 2 motifs above.
