Crochet cable stitch scarf for men

Almost always crochet patterns are designed for women. Only few designs suit men. This is one such pattern. This cable stitch is simple and looks great on a scarf for men.  


Materials Needed:
Medium worsted weight yarn approximately 400 meters
crochet hook H/5 mm
Yarn needle

Size:
Width is 7 inches and length about 56 inches. Length is adjustable.

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed
st/sts - stitch/stitches
ch - chain
sc - single crochet 
dc - double crochet
fptr - front post treble crochet

Instruction

Row 1: Ch 28, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (27 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st across. Turn. (27 sts).

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in next 2 sts, **skip next 2 sts, fptr in the next st one row below, dc in the skipped 2 sts working behind the fptr, skip the st where you worked the fptr, dc in next 3 sts** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st across. Turn. (27 sts).

Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as 1st st), dc in next 2 sts, **skip next 2 sts, fptr in the dc one row below the next st, dc in skipped 2 sts working behind the fptr, skip the st where you worked the fptr, dc in next 3 sts** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

 Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you reach the desired length. Fasten off and attach tassels. Weave in all the loose ends.

  4. Now in row 5 where it says "fptr in the dc one row below the next st..." is it the double crochet under the row directly under the next stitch? Or is the single crochet under the next stitch? It looks like the dc is part of the fptr. If that's the case, is the second dc of the two dc in skipped sts part of the fptr or the first dc of the "dc in next 3 sts"?
