Verona - lace crochet triangle shawl

Materials:

Sport weight/DK weight/ category 2 or 3 yarn approximately 365 to 375 meters

G/4 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

The finished shawl has a wingspan of about 150 cm (59 inches) and height of 54 cm (21 inches) after blocking

Gauge:

17 dc and 9 rows = approximately 4 inches

Stitches/Abbreviations used:

** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - Repeat instructions within brackets as a set as many times as directed

st/sts - stitch/stitches

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet 

dc - double crochet

Note:

  • The pattern is written in standard American terms
  • This shawl is worked top down.
  • For a custom size make initial chains in multiples of 8 + 6
  • For best result block the shawl

Instruction

Ch 230

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, **ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch** Repeat from ** to ** across, instead of last ch 5, work 2 ch and a dc in the last ch. Turn.

Row 2: Repeat [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space] across, instead of ch 5 into the last ch-5 space work ch 2 and dc in the 3rd ch. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 5, sc in the next ch-5 space, [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the next sc, sc in next ch-5 space, **ch 5, sc in the next ch-5 space, [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the next sc, sc in next ch-5 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, ch 2, dc in the 3rd ch of the last ch-5 space. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 5, sc in next ch-1 space, **ch 5, sc in the next ch-5 space, ch 5, sc in the next ch-1 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, ch 2, dc in the 3rd ch of the last ch-5 space. Turn.

Row 5: Repeat row 3.

Row 6: Repeat row 4.

Row 7 and 8: Repeat [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space] across, instead of ch 5 into the last ch-5 space work ch 2 and dc in the last space. Turn.

Row 9 to 56: Repeat rows 3 to 8 eight more times

Row 57: Ch 2, dc in the 3rd ch of the next space. Continue working the edging.

Edging

Ch 3, sl st in the 1st ch (forms picot), 2 sc in the same space, repeat [picot, 2 sc in the next space] going up all the way to the top corner, picot in the corner, repeat [3 sc in next space, picot] across the top up to the next corner working a picot at the corner, repeat [2 sc in next space, picot] coming down the side. Join with a sl st to the beginning and fasten off. Weave in all the loose ends.

 Block the shawl for best result.
