Materials:

Sport weight/category 3 yarn in 4 colours

G/4 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

The square measures about 12 x 12 cm (4.75 x 4.75 inches)

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet 

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

puff st - puff stitch (4 dc cluster stitch) - double crochet 4 sts worked together in the same stitch/space

Puff stitch - Yarn over hook, insert hook in next st/space, yarn over and pull up a loop, (insert hook in the same st/space, yarn over and pull up a loop) 3 times, you'll have 9 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through 8 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.

Instruction:

Round 1: Using color A make a magic ring, ch 1, 4 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1^st sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1^st sc. (8 sts)

Round 3: Ch 1, starting fron next st work [puff st, ch 2] in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1^st cluster. (8 puff sts)

Round 4: Pull color B through the loop, ch 1, puff st in same st, **ch 2, puff st in next ch-2 space, ch 2, puff st in next st** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1^st cluster. (16 puff sts)

Round 5: Pull color C through the loop, ch 1, puff st in same st, ch 2, puff st in next ch-2 space, ch 2, puff st in next puff st, ch 2, skip next ch-2 space, **puff st in next puff st, ch 2, puff st in ch-2 space, ch 2, puff st in next puff st, ch 2, skip next ch-2 space** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1^st puff st. (24 puff sts)

Round 6: Join color D in the next ch-2 space, ch 1, 2 hdc in same space, 2 hdc in next ch-2 space, 2 sc in next ch-2 space, 2 hdc in the next 2 ch-2 spaces, **[3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, 2 hdc in the next 2 ch-2 spaces, 2 sc in next ch-2 space, 2 hdc in the next 2 ch-2 spaces** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, 2 hdc in the next 2 ch-2 spaces, 2 sc in next ch-2 space. Join with a sl st to the 1^st hdc.

Round 7: Ch 1, sc in each st up to ch-3 space (there will be 7 sc), **4 sc in ch-3 space, sc in each st up to next ch-3 space (there will be 16 sc)** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, 4 sc in next ch-3 space, sc in rest of the sc. Join with a sl st to 1^st sc. (80 sc in total)

Fasten off and weave in the loose ends of yarn.
