Crochet interlace drawstring bag - free pattern

A cute crochet drawstring bag with a unique pattern consisting of chains of two colours that are interwoven to produce an intricate looking crochet bag.

Materials: 

Medium worsted weight yarn in 2 colours (blue and white) approximately 75 to 85 meters each

Crochet hook size H/5 mm

Stitch marker

Measuring tape

Size:

The bag is about 11 inches high and a little less than 10 inches wide

Stitches/Abbreviations used:

** Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

Instruction

Base of the bag

Round 1: Using blue make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 14 dc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (15 sts)

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc in all rounds), dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (30 sts)

Round 3: Repeat [dc in next st, 2 dc in next st] around. Join. (45 sts)

Round 4: Repeat [dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st] around. Join. (60 sts)

Round 5: Repeat [dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st] around. Join. (75 sts)

Round 6: Repeat [dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st] around. Join. (90 sts)

Round 7: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join (90 sts)

Body of the bag

Round 8: Ch 1, sc in same st, **ch 7, skip next 4 sts, sc in next st** Repeat from ** to ** 16 more times, ch 4, dc in the 1st sc at the beginning of round (18 ch-7 spaces). Remove the hook and place a stitch marker at the loop to prevent the sts from unravelling.

Round 9: Join white in the 2nd st from the next sc working from inside (the blue ch-7 spaces will stay on the outer side while the white will stay on the inner side), ch 1, sc in same st, **ch 7, sc in the 2nd st from the next sc**Repeat from ** to ** 16 more times, ch 4, dc in the sc at the beginning of round. (Before joining push the blue yarn inside) 

Round 10: Ch 1, sc in same space, **ch 7, sc in next ch-7 space** Repeat from ** to ** 16 more times, ch 4, dc in the sc at the beginning of round. (Make sure that the blue yarn is on your right side and not caught in between the loops). Remove the stitch marker from the blue yarn and place it in the loop of the white yarn.

Round 11: Work this round using blue. Ch 1, sc in same st, **ch 7, sc in the next blue ch-7 space after pulling it through the white loop above it**  Repeat from ** to ** 16 more times, ch 4, dc in the sc at the beginning of round. (Before joining push the white yarn inside) 


Round 12: Ch 1, sc in same space, **ch 7, sc in next ch-7 space** Repeat from ** to ** 16 more times, ch 4, dc in the sc at the beginning of round. (Make sure that the white yarn is on your right side and not caught in between the loops). Remove the stitch marker from the white yarn and place it in the loop of the blue yarn.

Repeat rounds 11and 12 until the total height of the bag is about 10 inches finishing with the white yarn. Fasten off white.


Last round: Using blue yarn repeat round 11. 
Trim: Ch 1, sc in same space, ch 3, sc in sc, sc in same space, ch 2, **sc in next white ch-7 space, ch 3, sc in sc, sc in same space, ch 2, sc in next blue ch-7 space, ch 3, sc in sc, sc in same space, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.

Using the white yarn make a cord by making chains measuring about 30 inches long. Weave the cord through the circumference of the upper part of bag. 

Weave in all the loose ends. You can also attach beads to the ends of the cord.
