Crochet Easter basket free pattern

Hey everybody, hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was spent working on a few WIPs and starting some new projects. Nowadays I don't seem to be doing anything else other than crocheting. The past few days had been really hectic with launching the new website. I spent almost my entire waking hours in front of the computer, was sleeping less and binging on sweets and the result shows in the size of my waist :(

Anyway here is a free mini Easter basket pattern for you.

This basket measures 6 inches long, 2.25 inches wide and 2 inches high using worsted weight yarn and size 2.00 mm crochet hook.

The pattern is written using standard American terms.

Materials

Worsted weight yarn and E/3.5 mm crochet hook for the basket
Lace weight yarn in two colors and 2.00 mm crochet hook for the trimming
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Beads (optional)

Abbreviations used:

sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet (UK - double crochet)
cluster - double crochet (UK - treble) 2 sts worked together in same stitch

Handle

Ch 44, sc in each ch across. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Trimming

Using lace weight yarn and 2.00 mm crochet hook

Leaf cord

*Ch 13, sl st in the 6th and 7th ch from hook (forms a leaf)*. Repeat from * to * 17 more times or for a length of about one and half times the circumference of the basket. Wrap it around the basket to check the length. When you have reached the needed length work 4 ch after the last leaf, **sl st in 3 ch, sl st in 3 ch after the leaf, ch 7, sl st in the 6th and 7th ch from hook** (forms a leaf on the other side).  Repeat from ** to ** until the end.

Plain cord

Using another color make chains to measure the length of the leaf cord. Do not fasten off. Starting from one end twist it around the leaf cord loosely. If necessary make more number of chains. Fasten off and weave in the loose ends.

Finishing

Sew the handle.
Sew the twisted cords around the basket and decorate with beads.

Hope you enjoy the pattern. Have a great day!
