Doodling and tangling

That's what I had been doing the past few days. I know doodling but I didn't know there was something called tangling. I came to know about Zentangle through Pinterest. It is a very interesting form of doodling consisting of several patterns which are repeated to create an art.

It is very addictive and the best thing is you don't even need to know how to draw. So since I have been trying to stay away from crocheting for a few more days (though now and then I do pick up my hook and yarn, can't help it) I find myself getting more and more addicted to tangling and I should admit that this is not at all going to help improve my neck and shoulder pain.

After days of black and white doodling I was yearning for colors. So I bought myself a set of color pencils and started sketching some pictures that I could color. I admit I am no good in sketching but that is not going to stop me.

It may not be a masterpiece but I love the above sketch a lot. I found a photo of this orange scooter parked in front of a green door in Pinterest and fell in love with it.

I hope I'll improve with practice.

  3. You don't have anything to be ashamed of, drawing-wise. I went to a high fallootin' art school, and yet, your color and composition work seem effortless compared to what I can accomplish. :D

I really like the idea of zentangling. I've never seen the term before, but I want to give it a go. I think I know now where I'll use that empty blank paged journal I was trying to figure out a use for. Thanks for sharing.

  4. It is indeed addictive! I have used it for making bookmarks, Christmas ornaments and "framing" writings. Wish I could find more things to use it for that would be productive so I could justify all that time spent on it! It is very relaxing and you really don't have to know how to draw to do it. I would have to disagree with your statement that you are very good at drawing after looking at your picture of the scooter and door! :0)

  12. Hello Pradeepa, I just became a member of your blog because of your nice crochet work. But now I read that your neck and shoulders hurt from it (I get the same problem when I crochet too long), so that's a pity. I like your drawings too, I used to draw and paint before I made dolls. People that are creative often start with drawing and develop other crafts later. I love your name, I was in India in 1985 and traveled around, so your name reminds me of that time (I was there for half a year and it was a great experience!).
Good luck with your art and if you can find the time, you are welcome on my blog.
    Greetings! :)

  16. Pradeepa, your doodling and zentangles are absolutely gorgeous! Obviously you are multi-talented and I love, love, love the scooter picture. You should definitely frame and display it. Great work! I want to doodle and draw, too. I carry journals with me wherever I go, whenever we travel, and somehow I just never do it. I want to art journal and draw every day but never follow through. Something is definitely wrong with me. I must make myself start doing it. Thanks for the inspiration. Best wishes, Tammy
