Finally I made something for myself. I started this shawl quite some time back but had to stop it though only a couple of rounds were remaining because of neck pain. I developed this annoying neck and shoulder pain, also wrist and elbow pain on the right side over the past couple of weeks and so decided to put aside my hooks and yarns for a while. Yesterday I felt the pain was better, so picked up my hook and finished off the last 2 rounds. The pattern is from a Japanese crochet magazine.
I baked an apple pie two days ago. It was my third attempt and I was not disappointed. The first one that I made long ago was good but the second time was a failure. This time the upper crust came out perfectly but the base and the sides became soggy. I felt the apples inside were oozing too much liquid. I refrigerated it overnight and the next day it tasted really good.
Have you read "North and South" by Elizabeth Gaskell? or have to watched the BBC series of its adaptation? If you haven't I say you should watch it, especially if you are a fan of period dramas like me.

I don't remember when I bought this novel but I have been having it for a long time. Obviously I had read it long ago but I don't think I enjoyed it much at that time. I only remembered that the story happens during the industrial revolution and dealt with the relationship between mill owners and workers which didn't seem to be a very interesting topic. As I mentioned earlier, for the past two weeks I was trying to stay away from crocheting and I had nothing else to do as the only thing that I do in my free time (or most of my waking hours) is to crochet. I was getting quite bored and so I started reading. I brought out this novel by Elizabeth Gaskell and started reading it and absolutely loved it. After finishing the book I searched the internet to see if there was any movie on it. Then I found the BBC drama series in Youtube. I watched it, again I watched it, again I watched it and I am sure I will watch it many more times.

What is surprising to me is that I had never been interested in movies. I rarely watch movies and even if I do, however good the movie may be, I don't watch it more that once, or in very rare cases, twice. But this, I have already watched thrice in 3 days. I love each and every scene and the actors are fabulous. The soundtrack is awesome. I even went ahead and created a separate Pinterest board for North and South. I might sound like a crazy teenager but I can't help it. I am so much in love with the series and I have never ever been so much fascinated by a movie before.

If you love period dramas I suggest that you watch it. There are totally 4 episodes of roughly 1 hour each and you'll definitely like it.
Your shawl is gorgeous, so sorry you are experiencing pain, erst my friend. And thanks for the North and South idea, I read the book ages ago, I should pick it up again.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith

I haven't heard of it before, but absolutely love period dramas so I'm off to amazon for the book and then I wi be watching it as I definitely prefer to read it and then watch it. Thanks for sharing this and well done on a beautiful shawl. Enjoy your week xoxo
ReplyDeleteIn your next try to make an applepie you could try to add some custard to the apples. This will absorb the moisture coming from the apples. What also is nice to add some more taste is to put some almond paste on the bottom dough layer. Having a husband that used to be a patissier I know these little secrets ;-)
ReplyDeleteDid you know there was a North and South series from the US also? I think I watched that in the '80 (long long time ago lol). Patrick Swayze was playing in that series. I Always loved to watch it.
Take care,
Nathalie
Thanks, Nathalie! Next time I make an apple pie I'll do as you suggested.

ReplyDeleteIts my first time here. And I loved it. Your pictures are wonderful! And guess what, I love period drama too. I'm totally in love with them, I love the movie "Persuasion". I specially like the 2007 movie, its a British television film. And I've lost count of how many times I've watched it. I think you should watch it too, I'm sure you'll love it.
