Here is an easy unisex crochet scarf pattern for beginners. It's a one row repeat pattern using only basic crochet stitches like chains, single and double crochet.
Materials:
Light worsted weight/category 3 yarn approximately 625 meters/685 yards
G/4 mm crochet hook
Measuring tape
Yarn needle
Size:
After blocking approximately 14 inches wide and 75 inches long
Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed
st/sts - stitch/stitches
ch - chain
sc - single crochet (UK - double crochet)
dc - double crochet (UK - treble crochet)
Note:
For custom width, make initial chains in multiples of 8 + 4 extra

Instruction:
Ch 84 (multiples of 8 + 4)
Row 1: Skip 4 ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch (skipped 4 ch will count as the 1st st), ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, **ch 3, skip 2 ch, dc in next 3 ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch** Repeat from ** to ** across until you have 3 ch left, ch 3, skip 2 ch, dc in last ch. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in ch-3 space, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 space, **ch 3, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-3 space, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, ch 3, dc in last st. Turn.
Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired length.
Finishing
Weave in all the loose ends of yarn.
Block the scarf to open up the stitches.
