Zaria - asymmetric triangle shawl - free crochet pattern

This is Zaria. Zaria is an asymmetric right angle triangle shawl. It's an easy pattern involving only a few basic crochet stitches. It's worked from bottom up. Width at the bottom is 37 inches and height is 56 inches.

Materials

Fingering weight/category 1/sock yarn approximately 575 to 585 meters

G/4 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size

37 inches wide at the bottom and 56 inches high

Abbreviations/stitches used

** - repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sc - single crochet - (UK - double crochet)

dc - double crochet (UK - treble)

Note

The pattern is written using standard American terms

The shawl needs blocking after completion

Instruction

Shell: [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc]

Row 1: Ch 176, sc in 6th ch from hook, ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, **ch 3, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch** Repeat from ** to ** across until you have 2 chs left, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in last ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space, **[ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space] 3 times, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 3: Sl st in 2 sts and in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 3, **[sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3 in next ch-6 space] 3 times, sc in ch-1 space of shell, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** until the last ch-1 space, ch 3, [sc, ch 3, sc] in next ch-6 space, ch 2, dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 6, sc in next ch-3 space, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space, **[ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space] 3 times, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 5: Repeat row 3 finishing with [sc, ch 1, dc] in last space. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in same st, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space, **[ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space] 3 times, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 7: Repeat row 3 up to sc in last ch-1 space of shell, ch 2, dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 8: Ch 3, [dc, ch 1, 2 dc – incomplete shell] in ch-2 space, sc in next ch-3 space, **[ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space] 3 times, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 9: Repeat row 3 up to sc in ch-1 space of incomplete shell, ch 1, dc in last st. Turn.

Row 10: Ch 1, sc in same st, **[ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space] 3 times, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 11: Repeat row 3 finishing with ch 2 and dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 13: Repeat row 3 finishing with ch 3 followed by [sc, ch 1 and dc] in the last ch-6 space. Turn.

Row 15: Repeat row 3 finishing with ch 2 and dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 17: Repeat row 3 finishing with ch 3, [sc, ch 1, dc] in last space. Turn.

Repeat rows 2 to 17 seven more times.

Row 130: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 6, skip next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space. Turn.

Row 131: Sl st in 2 sts and in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 3, [sc, ch 3, sc] in next ch-6 space, ch 2, dc in last sc. Turn.

Row 132: Ch 6, sc in next ch-3 space, shell in next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space,

Row 136: Ch 3, [dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in ch-2 space, sc in next ch-3 space. Turn.

Row 137: Sl st in 2 sts and in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 2, sc in last st. Cut off yarn.
