Today's free pattern is a cute little sling bag for your kids or yourself. Take out those leftover yarns that you have in your stash and pick up a suitable hook. I used sport weight yarn in one main color and 3 complementing colors along with a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

Materials Needed:
Sport weight yarns in small quantities. I used grey along with pink, green and yellow.
Crochet hook size 3.5 mm
1 inch diameter button

The bag measures 7 inches wide and less than 7 inches high excluding the strap
Stitches/Abbreviations used:
[ ] - work instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as required
ch - chain
st/sts - stitch/stitches
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
3dc cluster - double crochet 3 sts worked together in the same stitch
Instruction
Round 1: Using MC (main color), ch 34, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in rest of the chs across
except last, 5 dc in last ch, dc in next 29 ch on the other side, 2 dc in last
ch. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch at the beginning of round. (68
sts) (skipped 3 ch at the beginning counts as 1st st)
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts
as 1st st), 2 dc in next st, dc in next 31 sts, 2
dc in next st, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 31 sts, 2 dc in next
st.
Join with a sl st to 3rd ch. (72 sts)
Round 3: Ch 3
(counts as 1st st), dc in each st around. Join with a sl st
to the 1st st. (72 sts)
Round 4: Pull CC1 (complementing color 1) through the loop, sc in 1st st, 3dc cluster in next st, repeat [sc
in next 7 sts, 3dc cluster in next st] 8 times, sc in rest of the 6 sts. Join
with a sl st to the 1st sc.
Round 5: Pull MC
through the loop, ch 3, dc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1st
st.
Round 6: Ch 3,
dc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 7: Pull CC2
through the loop, ch 1, sc in 5 sts, 3dc cluster in next st, repeat [sc in next
7 sts, 3dc cluster in next st] 8 times, sc in 2 sts. Join with a sl st to the 1st
sc.
Round 8 and 9: Using MC repeat 2 rounds of dc in each st around.
Rounds 10 to 22: Repeat rounds 4 to 9. Cut off yarn and weave in the ends.
Finishing
Sew a button to the front of the bag. Join
yarn to the back of the bag right behind the button and make a loop using any
number of chains long enough to go around the button. Join with a sl st to the
same st where you joined the yarn.
To make the strap, make any number of chains and work sl st in each ch across. Cut off yarn and weave in the ends. Sew both the ends to the inner sides of the bag.
