Filet crochet triangle scarf - free pattern

This is an asymmetric triangle scarf/shawl made using the filet crochet technique which seems to be my new favorite. This pattern is very easy and you don't have to refer to the pattern very often. The finished scarf has a wingspan of about 156 cm and a height of 50 cm when worked using fingering weight yarn and a crochet hook size G/4 mm.

Watch the video tutorial here

Materials required:

Fingering weight yarn approximately 475 to 480 yards
Crochet hook size G/4 mm
Yarn needle

Size:

The finished scarf has a wingspan of 156 cm and depth of 50 cm

Abbreviations/stitches Used:

** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed
[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
st/sts - stitch/stitches
ch - chain
dc - double crochet (UK - treble)

Instruction:

Row 1: Ch 3, dc in the last ch from hook. Turn. (2 sts) (The skipped 2 ch counts as 1st st)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st st in all rows), dc in same st, dc in next st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts) (The skipped 2 ch counts as 1st st)
Row 4: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in rest of the sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: Ch 3, dc in rest of the sts finishing with 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 6 to 79: Repeat rows 4 and 5 increasing one st in each row.
Row 80: Repeat row 4. Turn. (81 sts)
Row 81: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), skip next st, **dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st** Repeat from ** to ** across finishing with 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 82: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in next st, **ch 1, dc in next dc** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.
Row 83: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), **dc in next dc, ch 1** Repeat from ** to ** across finishing with 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 84: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each st and dc in each ch-1 space across. Turn. (85 sts)

Stitch Pattern (SP) - dc in 6 sts, (ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st) twice, ch 1, skip next st

Row 85: Repeat SP 7 times, dc in rest of the sts except the last, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (Begin the row with ch 3 which will count as the 1st dc
Row 86: Repeat row 84. Turn. (87 sts)
Row 87: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), skip next st, (dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st) twice, repeat SP 7 times, dc in rest of the sts except the last, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 88: Repeat row 84. Turn. (89 sts)
Rows 89 to 92: Repeat rows 85 to 88 one more time repeating SP as many times as required. If any row is supposed to end with ch-1 spaces, check to see if there are enough sts to work three ch-1 spaces. If there aren't enough sts then continue working dc until the end finishing the row with 2 sts in the last st.
Rows 93 to 96: Repeat rows 81 to 84

Repeat rows 85 to 88 three times followed by rows 81 to 84.
Then repeat rows 85 to 88 four times followed by rows 81 to 83. Cut off yarn and weave in the loose ends.

Block the scarf for best result.
