Note

  • The pattern is written in standard US terms
  • I used off white as the main color and used white and yellow for the flowers at the center of the squares. Rest of the colors were used randomly
  • Make 24 squares with flower for the body of the bag and 3 squares without flower for the bottom of the bag
Square 1 (with flower)

Make 24

Round 1: Using white ch 4, join the last ch with a sl st to the 1st ch.

Round 2: Repeat [ch 4, sc into ring] 8 times. Cut off yarn.

Round 3: Join yellow in any ch-4 loop, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3, sl st in same loop, ch 1, **[sl st, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3, sl st] in next ch-4 loop, ch 1** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 1st loop. Cut off yarn.

Round 4: Join a new color in any ch-1 space, **ch 4, sc in next ch-1 space working behind the petal** Repeat from ** to ** around.

Round 5: Sl st in next ch-4 space, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, **3 dc in next ch-4 space, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-4 space** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, 3 dc in next ch-4 space. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. Cut off yarn.

Round 6: Join new color in any ch-2 space, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, **repeat [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] twice, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] twice. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. Cut off yarn.

Round 7: Join main color in any ch-2 space, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, **repeat [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] thrice, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] thrice. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. Cut off yarn.

Square 2 (without flower)

Make 3

Round 1: Using main color, ch 4, join the last ch with a sl st to the 1st ch.

Round 2: Repeat [ch 4, sc into ring] 8 times.

Round 3: Sl st in next ch-4 loop, ch 3 (counts as dc) 2 dc in same space, **ch 2, 3 dc in next two ch-4 spaces** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, ch 2. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.

Round 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, 3 dc in the space after next 3 dc** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.

Round 5: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, 3 dc in the space after next 3 dc, **[3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] twice** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.

Round 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] twice, **[3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, [3 dc in the space after next 3 dc] thrice** Repeat from ** to ** 2 more times, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. Cut off yarn.

Square 2 (without flower)

Join the squares by working sc into the sts of two squares placed with the right sides out. Join all the squares as shown with the 3 plain squares at the bottom.

After joining all the squares in the order shown connect them to form the bag. Join A to A, B to B and so on. Finally join the side.

Working upper part of bag and handles

Round 1: Join main color in the 1st ch-2 space of the 1st square that forms the center of the bag (back or front). Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same space, make 3 dc in each space after a set of 3 dc until the next ch-2 space, 3 dc in the ch-2 space, 3 dc in the ch-2 space of next square. Repeat this around and join with a sl st to the 1st st. (144 sts)

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (144 sts)
Round 3 and 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (144 sts)

Place a marker at the 12th st from the starting point which would be the 1st st that forms the beginning of the center part of the bag (front or back). Place another marker at the 42nd st after the 1st marker. Repeat this on the other side also.

Handles - outer edge

Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st up to the marker, ch 100, sc in st where the other marker is placed, sc in rest of the sts until the next marker on the other side, ch 100, sc in the st where the 4th marker is placed, sc in rest of the sts. Join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in each st up to 2 sts before ch 100, insert hook into next st and pull yarn, skip the last sc, insert hook into 1st ch and pull yarn, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook (sc2tog with one skipped st in the middle

sc in each ch until you have the last ch left, insert hook into last ch and pull yarn, skip next sc, insert hook into next sc and pull yarn, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops of hook, sc in rest of the sts until the next ch 100. Repeat the steps for the other handle, sc in rest of the sts until the beginning of round and join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Round 7 and 8: Repeat round 6 working sc in each sc and sc2tog with one skipped st in the middle at each corner of the handles. Cut off yarn.

Handles - inner edge
Round 9: Join yarn anywhere between the handles and make sc in each st up to the handle, as you did with the outer part of the handle, here too you will skip the corner st and work sc2tog into the st before and after the corner st, sc in rest of the sts until the next corner, repeat the steps and join with a sl st to the 1st st.
Repeat 2 more similar rounds. Cut off yarn and weave in all the loose ends. Repeat for the other handle also.

I hope you enjoyed this pattern. Take care!
