Larissa Shawl - free crochet pattern

 



Materials:

Sport weight/category 2 yarn - 25 gm balls -  5 in main colour and 1.5 in complementing colour

H/5 mm crochet hook

Measuring tape

Yarn needle

Size:

The shawl has a wingspan of about 72 inches and height at the middle is about 30 inches. Both width and height can be increased or decreased according to your desire.

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sl st - slip stitch

ch - chain

sc - single crochet (UK - double crochet)

dc - double crochet (UK - treble)

dc2tog - double crochet worked together in 2 consecutive stitches (dc decrease)

Instruction

Increasing rows

Row 1: Ch 6, dc in last ch from hook. Turn. (1 box).

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), skip next ch, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch. Turn. (1 box increased at the end of row)

Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same st, repeat [ch 1, dc in next st] across. Turn. (1 box increased at the beginning of row)

Row 4: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in next st, ch 1, dc in next st, ch 1, skip next ch, [dc, ch 1, dc] in the last st. Turn. (1 box increased at the end of row)

Row 5: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same st, repeat [ch 1, dc in next st] across. Turn. (1 box increased at the beginning of row)

Row 6: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), repeat [dc in next st, ch 1] across until the last ch 4, skip next ch, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch. Turn. (1 box increased at the end of row)

 Repeat rows 5 and 6 until the length of the shawl at the straight side (no increase side) measures about 35 inches.

Decreasing rows

Row 1: Ch 2, dc in next st (together counts as dc2tog), repeat [ch 1, dc in next st] until the end of row. Turn. (1 box decreased at the beginning of row).

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in next st, repeat [ch 1, dc in next st] across until you have 2 ch-1 spaces left, ch 1, #dc2tog. Turn. (1 box decreased at the end of row)

#To make dc2tog at the end of a row, yarn over hook, insert hook in the next st and pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops, yarn over hook and insert hook in dc2tog, yarn over hook and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Repeat rows 1 and 2.

Last row: Ch 3, skip next ch, dc in dc2tog. Cut off yarn.

Border

Row 1: Join yarn at the st where you fastened off and ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), dc in same st, repeat [dc, ch 3, dc] in each row until the lower corner of the triangle, at the corner work [dc, ch 6, dc], then continue to work [dc, ch 3, dc] in each row until the other end. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), sl st in the 3rd ch from the hook (forms a picot), repeat [dc in ch-3 space, ch 3, sl st in dc (forms picot)] 4 times, dc in same space, sc in next ch-3 space, **repeat [dc, picot] 5 times and finally a dc in the next ch-3 space, sc in next ch-3 space**, repeat from ** to ** until the ch-6 space at the tip, work [dc, picot] 9 times and lastly a dc into the ch-6 space, **sc in next ch-3 space, repeat [dc, picot] 5 times and finally a dc in the next ch-3 space** Repeat from ** to ** across. Cut off yarn and weave in all the loose ends.
