Instruction

(Instruction for both the sizes is the same except for the 1st round)

Using I/5.5 mm crochet hook ch 4 and join the last ch with a sl st to the 1st ch to form a ring. Instead, you can also make a magic ring.

Round 1:

Child: Ch 1, 10 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. (10 sc)

Adult: Ch 1, 12 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. (12 sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, repeat [ch 3, sc in next st] around finishing with sl st in the 1st st at the beginning. You will have 10 ch-3 spaces for the child size and 12 ch-3 spaces for the adult size.

Round 3: Sl st in the next ch-3 space, ch 1, sc in same space, repeat [ch 5, sc in next ch-3 space] around finishing with sl st in the 1st sc at the beginning.

Round 4: Sl st in the next 2 ch to reach the center of the next ch-5 space, ch 1, sc in same space, repeat [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space] around finishing with sl st in the 1st sc at the beginning.

Round 5: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in same st, **[dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch-5 space, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next sc** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch at the beginning.

Shell - [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in same space/st

cluster -3 dc worked together in same space/st

Round 6: Sl st in next ch-1 space, ch 3, [dc, ch 1, 2 dc] all in the same space, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 2, **shell in next ch-1 space, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch.

Round 7: Sl st in next dc and in ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in same space, ch 3, cluster in the next sc, ch 3, **sc in the ch-1 space of next shell, ch 3, cluster in next sc, ch 3** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the sc at the beginning.

Round 8: Ch 3, [dc, ch 1, 2 dc] in the same st, ch 2, sc in next cluster, ch 2, **shell in next sc, ch 2, sc in next cluster, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** around. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch.

Repeat rounds 7 and 8 until the height of the hat measures about 7 to 7.5 inches for the child size and 8 to 8.5 inches for the adult size finishing with repeat of round 7. Work more rounds if you want your hat to have more slouch.
