Irish crochet leaf - free pattern

I have a very simple and easy pattern today to make an Irish crochet leaf. Use any yarn and a suitable hook. Depending on the yarn and the size of hook your leaf size will vary.

This pattern is made up of only two rows that are repeated and also working into the back and front loops of the stitches creates the ridge pattern on the leaf.

You can watch the video here

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in next 7 ch, 3 sc in the last ch, sc in 6 ch on the other side. Turn.

Row 2 (work only into the front loops): Ch 1, sc in 7 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts. Turn.

Row 3 (work only into the back loops): Ch 1, sc in 8 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts. Turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 one or two more times.

Make the stem in the last row. While working 3 sts at the centre, stop at the 1st st, work 4 ch, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in rest of the chs, 2 sc in the same st as the 1st st worked at the centre, then continue with rest of the sts before fastening off.

  1. Thank you for this tutorial of the Irish Leaf. I really love these little motifs and had just made one in a cotton that turned out large enough to use for Fall as a trivet. CJ
