Daisies and lady bugs bag - free crochet pattern

Materials:

Medium worsted weight yarn about 200 meters for the bag

Sport weight/category 2 yarn in yellow, white, black and red for the appliques

G/4 mm crochet hook

2 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

The bag has a width of about 9.5 inches and height of 9 inches not including the handles

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sl st- slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

hdc - half double crochet

tr - treble

Instruction

Bag

Round 1: Use 4 mm crochet hook and ch 33, sc in 2^nd ch from hook (place a st marker here to avoid confusion while joining), sc in rest of the chs except the last, 3 sc in last ch, sc in 30 ch from the other side, 2 sc in next ch. Join with a sl st to the 1^st sc. (66 sts)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in 1^st st, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in the next 2 sts (72 sts)

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in 1^st st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next st, 2 sc in the next st] 2 times (78 sts)

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st] 2 times (84 sts)

Round 5: Ch 1, sc in 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in next 30 sts, [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st] 2 times (90 sts)

Round 6: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (90 sts)

Repeat round 6 until the total height of the bag is about 22 cm.

Handles

Place a stitch marker 7 cm away from both the edges on both the sides of the bag. Repeat on the other side.

Round 1: Sc in each st up to the marker, ch 65, sc in the next marked st and in each st up to the next marker, repeat other handle and sc in rest of the sts. Join with a sl st to 1^st st.  

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st and in each ch. Join with a sl st to the 1^st sc. Cut off yarn. Weave in all the loose ends.

                                                                                Appliques

Use sport weight yarn and 2 mm crochet hook

Daisies (make 8)

Round 1: Using yellow make a magic ring, Ch 1, 6 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to 1^st sc and fasten off

Round 2: Join white in any st, repeat [sl st, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 3, sl st] in each st. Fasten off and weave in all the loose ends of yarn. 

Ladybugs (make 7)

Round 1: Using red make a magic ring, Ch 1, 6 sc into ring. Do not join.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to 1^st sc and fasten off. (12 sc)

To make the head join black in any st, ch 1, 2 hdc in next st, sl st in next st and fasten off leaving a long tail to make the markings on the body. Thread yarn needle through the loose end of yarn and bring the needle to the back side, insert it through the center at the base of the head bring the needle to the front. Bring the needle down making a vertical line at the middle of the red circle, then make tiny dots on the red circle. Fasten off and weave in the loose ends of yarn.  

Finishing

You can glue or sew the appliques to the bag. If you are sewing do it in such a way that the stitches are not visible on the other side by only sewing into the top portion of the sts of the bag and not taking the needle all the way to the back of the bag. Place the appliques as shown in the image.
