Materials:

Light worsted weight/DK weight yarn about 700 meters

H/5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

Wingspan of about 72 inches and height 35 inches

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

[ ] - Repeat instructions between brackets as a set as many times as directed

st/sts - stitch/stitches

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

dc - double crochet (UK - treble)

tr - treble (UK- double treble)

Instruction 

Ch 4, join the last ch with a sl st to the 1^st ch to form a ring.

Row 1: Ch 5 (counts as tr + ch 1 in all rows), work [3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, tr] into ring. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 5, 3 dc in 1^st space, ch 1, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in the corner ch-1 space, ch 1, 3 dc in the last space, ch 1, tr in the 4^th ch. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 5, 3 dc in 1^st space, ch 1, [3 dc, ch 1] in next ch-1 space, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in the corner ch-3 space, [ch 1, 3 dc] in next ch-1 space, ch 1, [ch 1, 3 dc] in last space, tr in the 4^th ch. Turn.

Row 4 to 8: Repeat row 3 working [3 dc, ch 1] in each ch-1 space and [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in the corner ch-3 space. Turn.

Row 9: Ch 5, 2 dc in ch-1 space, [dc in next 3 dc, dc in ch-1 space] until ch-3 space, [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in ch-3 space, [dc in next 3 dc, dc in ch-1 space] finishing with 2 dc in last space, ch 1, tr in 4^th ch.

Row 10: Ch 5, 2 dc in ch-1 space, dc in next dc, repeat [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st] upto the corner ch-3 space, [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in ch-3 space, dc in next dc, repeat [ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st] finishing with 2 dc in the last ch-1 space, ch 1, tr in the 4^th ch. Turn.

Row 11: Ch 5, 2 dc in ch-1 space, dc in each st and in each ch-1 space, [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in corner ch-3 space, dc in rest of the sts and ch-1 space finishing with 2 dc in the last space, ch 1, tr in the 4^th ch. Turn.

Row 12 to 15: Repeat rows 10 and 11 two times.

Row 16: Ch 5, 3 dc in ch-1 space, **ch 1, skip 3 sts, 3 dc in next st** Repeat from ** to ** up to the ch-3 space at the top, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in ch-3 space, ch 1, skip next 3 sts, 3 dc in next st** Repeat from ** to ** finishing with 3 dc, ch 1 in last space, tr in the 4^th ch.

Row 17 to 23: Repeat row 3 working [3 dc, ch 1] in each ch-1 space and [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] in the corner ch-3 space. Turn.

Row 24 to 30: Repeat rows 9 to 15.

Row 31 to 45: Repeat rows 16 to 30.

Fasten off and weave in all the loose ends of yarn. Block if needed.
