Crochet cable stitch scarf for men

 

This cable stitch scarf would be a great one for men. Though it's not a beginner friendly pattern as it involves stitches worked around the posts (fptr) this stitch could be learned easily by an adventurous crocheter. Otherwise it's an easy 2-row repeat pattern.

Materials Required:

Light worsted weight/category 3 yarn approximately 750 meters

H/5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Size:

About 12 inches wide and 75 inches long

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

** - Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

fptr - front post treble crochet

Note:

The pattern is written using standard American terms

For a custom width make chs in multiples of 7

Instruction:

Row 1: Ch 56, dc in 4^th ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, **ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next 5 ch** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn. (skipped 3 ch at the beginning counts as the 1^st st)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 5 sts, **2 sc in ch-2 space, sc in next 5 sts** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, fptr in the 4^th dc one row below, ch 1, fptr in the 2^nd dc one row below (forms a crossed st), dc in the next sc that’s above the 5^th dc, **ch 2, skip next 2 sc, dc in the next sc, fptr in the 4^th dc one row below, ch 1, dc in the 2^nd dc one row below, dc in next sc** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in 1^st st, sc in fptr, sc in ch-1 space, sc in fptr, sc in dc, **2 sc in ch-2 space, sc in 2 sts, sc in ch-1 space, sc in next 2 sts** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn,
Row 5: Ch 3, fptr in the 2^nd fptr, ch 1, fptr in the 1^st fptr, dc in next sc which is above the 5^th dc, **ch 2, skip 2 sc, dc in next sc, fptr in the 2^nd fptr, ch 1, fptr in the 1^st fptr, dc in the next sc**  Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.
 
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you reach the desired length.
