Rectangular crochet shawl pattern

 

Ella is my latest crochet shawl pattern which is easy and suitable for a beginner. It has only a few basic crochet stitches like chains, single and double crochet. It has only 2 rows that are repeated throughtout.

Materials:
Light worsted weight/DK/category 3 yarn about 850 to 875 meters
H/5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

Size:
Approximately 14 inches wide and 75 inches long without blocking

Stitches/Abbreviations Used:
** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed
[ ] -  Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
ch - chains
st/sts - stitch/stitches
sc - single crochet (UK - double crochet)
dc - double crochet (UK - treble)

Note:
The pattern is written in standard American terms.
For a custom size make chains in multiples of 12+2

Instruction

Row 1: Ch 74, sc in the 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, skip 3 ch, [3 dc, ch 3, sc] in next ch, ch 2, skip next ch, [sc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch, skip 3 ch, **sc in next ch, ch 2, skip next ch, sc in next ch, skip 3 ch, [3 dc, ch 3, sc] in next ch, ch 2, skip next ch, [sc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch, skip 3 ch** Repeat from ** to ** across, sc in last 2 ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 2, sc in ch-3 space next to the 3 dc, ch 2, dc in next ch-2 space, ch 2, sc in ch-3 space after the next 3 dc, ch 2, **[dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch-2 space, ch 2, sc in ch-3 space, ch 2, dc in ch-2 space, ch 2, sc in next ch-3 space, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 2 dc in last st. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in 2 sts, skip next ch-2 space, [3 dc, ch 3, sc] in next ch-2 space, ch 2, skip next dc, [sc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space, **sc in next dc, ch 2, sc in next dc, skip next ch-2 space, [3 dc, ch 3, sc] in next ch-2 space, ch 2, [sc, ch 3, 3 dc] in next ch-2 space** Repeat from ** to ** across, sc in last 2 sts. Turn.

 Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach the desired length.

  2. Finally got the hang of it...it is a pretty shawl pattern....making it now using a #4 crochet..this pattern uses a lot of yarn so plan ahead with enough and extra yarn : at least 350 g...
