Falling leaves crochet scarf - free pattern

I have a very pretty and delicate scarf pattern for you today. It also includes a video tutorial. The pattern is beginner friendly and uses only a few basic crochet stitches.

Materials Required:

Fingering weight (category 1) yarn approximately 500 meters

G/4 mm crochet hook

Measuring tape

Yarn needle

Gauge

20 dc and 11 rows = approximately 4 inches

Size

The finished scarf measures approximately 32 cm wide and 180 cm long including trim and after blocking


Stitches/Abbreviations Used:

** - Repeat instructions within asterisks as many times as directed

ch - chain

st/sts - stitch/stitches

sl st - slip stitch

dc - double crochet 

5dc cluster - double crochet 5 sts worked together in same st/space

Instruction

4dc shell – [4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc] worked in same st/space

3dc shell – [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] worked in same st/space

2dc shell – [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] worked in same st/space

V st - [dc, ch 2, dc] worked in same st/space

Row 1: Ch 90, skip 11 ch from the hook and work 4dc shell in the 12th ch, ch 2, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, **ch 2, skip next 5 ch, 4dc shell in next ch, ch 2, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch** Repeat from ** to ** across. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 2, 3dc shell in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2, **V st in next dc, ch 2, 3dc shell in the ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 2 dc in last st/space. turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 2, 2dc shell in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2, **2dc shell in next V st, ch 2, 2dc shell in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 3 dc in last st. turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, 3 dc in same st, ch 2, V st in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2, **3dc shell in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2, V st in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 4 dc in last st. turn.

Row 5: Ch 3, 4 dc in same st, ch 2, dc in next V, ch 2, **4dc shell in next shell, ch 2, dc in next V, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 5 dc in last st. turn.

Row 6: Ch 3, 3 dc in same st, ch 2, V st in next dc, ch 2, **3dc shell in ch-2 space of next shell, ch 2, V st in next dc, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 4 dc in last st. turn.

Row 7: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 2, 2dc shell in next V st, ch 2, **2dc shell in next shell, ch 2, 2dc shell in next V st, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 3 dc in last st. turn.

Row 8: Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 2, 3dc shell in next shell, ch 2, **V st in next shell, ch 2, 3dc shell in next shell, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, 2 dc in last st. turn.

Row 9: Ch 5, 4 dc shell in next shell, ch 2, **dc in next V st, ch 2, 4dc shell in next shell, ch 2** Repeat from ** to ** across, dc in last st. turn.

Repeat rows 2 to 9 until you reach the desired length (approximately 160 cm)

Last row: Ch 8, sc in ch-2 space of 4dc shell, ch 5, **dc in next dc, ch 5, dc in ch-2 space of next 4dc shell, ch 5** Repeat from ** to ** across, dc in last space. Turn.

Trim: **Ch 10, dc5tog in the 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same ch, ch 2, skip next 2 ch, sl st in next ch, ch 3, sc in next st** Repeat from ** to ** across. Cut off yarn. Join yarn on the other side of the shawl and repeat the trim.

  4. This is a great pattern, I'm in the middle of making it now :) However, I do wish that in the video/pattern, it was made a bit clearer which stitch/space you were working into for the finishing/starting dcs for each row.
