Crochet basket - free pattern

I made these baskets few days ago. I wanted one to hold my embroidery skeins while I work on the cross stitch that I started a month ago. So I made the broad tray sort of basket with handles.
It's a simple one but I used one round in the middle of an interesting stitch pattern that I found in the 99 Crochet Post Stitches book. And I made one more tiny one just to see how this stitch would look when used as an edging.

Instruction

Materials

Heavy worsted weight yarn in a main color and a contrasting color
Crochet hook size H/5.00 mm
Yarn needle
Stitch markers

Stitches Used/Abbreviations

ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
sc - single crochet (UK- double crochet)
hdc - half double crochet (UK - half treble)
fpdc - front post double crochet

Note

The instruction is for the broad tray type basket with handles.
Unless specified work in continuous rounds placing a stitch marker at the 1st stitch of each round to identify the beginning of a round.

  3. Lovely baskets! Nice to see a glimpse of your beautiful cross stitch project:) Cross stitch takes time but it is a good stress buster and also it relieves me of pain caused by constant crocheting.
What a coincidence that I have a same colored basket but it is a store-bought square-shaped with knitted design. I also keep my cross stitch related things in it - not the threads but a thread catcher, embroidery scissors and needle minder.
